PRISON LABOR ABOLITION

When fighting for total liberation, we must talk about the prison industrial complex. Not only is the entire system of prisons and mass incarceration an overtly racist system, but it is the vehicle through which slavery continues in the United States. The official wording on the 13th amendment allows for slavery to be used as a form of punishment. This results in incarcerated people often being forced to do work at abysmal pay. Signing up for these exploitative jobs is painted as a voluntary decision; but the alternative (no work, no pay, in prison) is worse. These jobs include animal agriculture work, forcing incarcerated people to subjugate and oppress non-human animals.
